Thanksgiving

Tis for our thankfulness for many joys and blessings…
H is for our homes so warm and bright…
Ais for autumn, time for harvest and abundance…
Nis for nature’s beauty and delight…
Kis for the kitchens where good food is cooked with love…
Sfor spicy fragrances in the air…
Gis for the gathering of family and friends…
I for the inheritance we share…
Vis for the vision that the Pilgrims held so dear…
Iis for high ideals in all they planned…
Nis for our native country brave and great and free…
Gfor God’s great goodness to our land.

I’m Thankful
An Upbeat Gratitude Song
Jack Hartmann

When I wake up in the morning and I breathe in the air
I’m thankful, I’m thankful
When someone gives me a hug and shows that me they care, hug, hug
I’m thankful, I’m thankful

When I look all around at the colors I see — round and round
I’m thankful, I’m thankful
When I wake up in the morning, when someone gives me a hug, hug, hug
When I look all around ? round and round, I’m thankful today

When a cute little puppy wags his tail for me — wag, wag
I’m thankful, I’m thankful
When I pledge to the flag for our country that’s free
I pledge allegiance, I’m thankful, I’m thankful

When I eat good food with my family and friends — mmm, mmm
I’m thankful, I’m thankful
When a puppy wags its tail — wag, wag
When I pledge to the flag — I pledge allegiance
When I eat good food — mmm, mmm
I’m thankful today, I’m thankful today.

THANKSGIVING DAY

Thanksgiving Day will soon be here
It comes around but once a year
If I could only have my way,
We’d have Thanksgiving every day.

Thanksgiving Time

When all the leaves are off the boughs,
And nuts and apples gathered in,
And cornstalks waiting for the cows,
And pumpkins safe in barn and bin,
Then Mother says, “My children dear,
The fields are brown, and autumn flies;
Thanksgiving Day is very near,
And we must make thanksgiving pies!”

HOW TO OBSERVE THANKSGIVING ?

Count your blessings instead of your crosses;
Count your gains instead of your losses.
Count your joys instead of your woes;
Count your friends instead of your foes.
Count your smiles instead of your tears;
Count your courage instead of your fears.
Count your full years instead of your lean;
Count your kind deeds instead of your mean.
Count your health instead of your wealth;
Count on God instead of yourself.

BE THANKFUL

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don’t know something,
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations,
because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge,
because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes.
They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you’re tired and weary,
because it means you’ve made a difference.

It’s easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who
are also thankful for the setbacks.

Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles,
and they can become your blessings.

THANKSGIVING IS….

Thanksgiving is…
a time of gratitude to God, our Creator and Provider,
whose guidance and care go before us…
and whose love is with us forever.

Thanksgiving is…
a time to reflect on the changes,
to remember that we, too, grow and change
from one season of life to another.

Thanksgiving is…
a time of changing seasons, when leaves turn golden
in Autumn’s wake and apples are crisp
in the first chill breezes of fall.

Let us remember the true meaning of Thanksgiving.
As we see the beauty of Autumn,
let us acknowledge the many blessings which are ours…
let us think of our families and friends..
and let us give thanks in our hearts.

Thanksgiving Prayer

by Susan D. Anderson

I’m thankful for my mother, and
I’m thankful for my dad.
I’m thankful for my sisters, and
for all the fun we’ve had.
I’m thankful for my brother, Tom,
(even when he’s jerky.)
But most of all, I’m oh-so-thankful
not to be a turkey.

Mr. Turkey

(to the tune of Yankee Doodle)

Mr. Turkey, better watch out.
Thanksgiving Day is coming.
If you’re not careful, you’ll end up
In someone’s hungry tummy!
Mr. Turkey, run, run, run.
Please run away and hide.
Mr. Turkey, run, run, run.
Don’t wait around outside.

Turkey Warning

Tell me, Mr. Turkey,
Don’t you feel afraid
When you hear us talking
‘Bout the plans we’ve made?

Can’t you hear us telling
How we’re going to eat
Cranberries and stuffing
With our turkey meat?

Turkey, heed my warning:
Better fly away;
Or you will be sorry
On Thanksgiving day.

At Grandma’s House

I like the taste of turkey
Any time throughout the year
But it never
seems to taste as good
As when Thanksgiving’s here.

Could be it’s all the trimmings
That are cooked with it to eat-
But I think it’s
eating at Grandma’s house
That makes it such a treat!

Song of the Pilgrims

By Nancy Sue Krenrich

Across the rolling, wind-swept sea
For months we’ve sailed along,
I see a land that’s new to me
Against the blue horizon.

Oh, beautiful land of freedom born,
I’ve come across the sea
To reap your fruits and build my home,
And make my people free.

Funny Bird

A turkey is a funny bird,
Its head goes wobble, wobble,
All it knows is just one word,
“Gobble, gobble, gobble.”

Five Little Turkeys
5 little turkeys standing by door,
One waddled off, and then there were 4.
4 little turkeys under a treee,
One waddled off , and then there were 3.
3 little turkeys with nothing to do,
One waddled off, and then there were 2.
2 little turkeys in the noon day sun,
One waddled off, and then there was 1.
One little turkey better run away,
For soon will come Thanksgiving day.
Mr. Turkey Song

I heard Mr. Turkey say,
Gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble,
Soon t’will be Thanksgiving day,
Gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble,
People say that it’s much fun,
But I think I’ll run and run
And hide until the day is done,
Gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble,

Five Fat Turkeys
Five fat turkeys are we.
We spent all night in a tree.
When the cook came around,
We were no where to be found
And that’s why we’re here you see!

Turkey Trouble

(to the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb”)

We cooked turkey, nice and hot,
Nice and hot, nice and hot.
We cooked turkey nice and hot
On Thanksgiving Day.
We eat turkey a whole lot,
A whole lot, a whole lot.
We eat turkey a whole lot.
It will not go away!
Sandwiches and soup are fine.
By the way, would you like mine?
Pot pie lasts a long, long time,
It’s turkey every day!

Thanksgiving

The year has turned its circle,
The seasons come and go.
The harvest all is gathered in
And chilly north winds blow.
Orchards have shared their treasures,
The fields, their yellow grain,
So open wide the doorway-
Thanksgiving comes again!
